During the Second World War Canada faced unprecendented pressure on their human resources. In order to fulfil war time commitments both in war time production and military service the Canadian Government had to get creative with filling the growing gap between supply and demand of man power. As a result, the Canadian Government began looking at a different type of power: Women Power.
Throughout the Second World War, the roles of women began shifting, expanding, and growing. While scholarship still debates the nature of the shifts, women during their selves with unprecedented opportunities during the Second World War.
Rosies of the North is a digital history project to visualize the expanding roles of women during the Second World War in Canada. Please feel free to explore our different exhibits and collections to explore the roles and experiences of women during the second world war.
